Cool place to find a tattoo design or just get ideas.

I’m putting together my ideal Filipino tribal tattoo and I need help with some symbolism. So far I am getting the Filipino sun on my shoulder with the middle of it starting right on the tip top of my shoulder and the 8 rays going out. I want those curly tribal designs to go down my arm but I don’t know what they mean and I don’t have any other symbols. If you could tell me what various animals, plants, designs etc symbolize that would be great. I am very into the martial arts and surfing and I am a strong Christain. My grandparents are from the Cebu area. Any suggestions/interpretations of symbols? Thnx

alibata is always good to add to your piece. i am definitely going to get the last name of my moms side and dads side in alibata. my cousin was mentioning something about getting the Phillipine eagle on his back. i personally dont know what it looks like, but he had a good idea. the Phillipine sun is always a good thing to do, but from all the ones that i have seen, they look like they could have been better. they looked kinda cartoony. you should google "phillipine symbolism" or something along those lines. i would do it right now, but im at work. good luck

Im currently designing a tattoo of a sad fairy, and driving my self mad trying to design her wings.
The fairy is almost a side profile, so you can see both wings, but the closest one is more or less all in shot.
The thing is I want them to look tattered and ripped with holes in,
do you know where I can find any sites/pics that I can get ideas from?

(Im planning on this being a big tatt as I dont like missing out on details.)

Since every answer so far has been right, I’m hoping this is just a joke (開玩笑) on your part and that you didn’t get this tattoo.

Right now I am about 285 I am just not starting to workout..I hope to lose weight this year but this is my fear….I have this tribal art tattoo on my arm and I plan on getting more tattoos throughout this year..Will my tattoo stay okay throughout me losing weight or is it going to mess up??

The Tattoo will be fine. The skin it’s on may become flabby and distort it though.

For those with their body covered in tattoos and those earrings that stretch out the ear to make a huge hole in the ear lobe, though I think it looks totally rediculous, I understand your right to express yourself.
While it may look cool on you while you are young and don’t have much responsibility and while your "look" may be acceptable while working in that music store, auto shop or factory, what are you going to do when your tattoos and ears with the big holes in them aren’t acceptable when you have to find other jobs.
Do you also think how you are going to look when you are in your 40’s, 50’s 70’s and older? You are going to be an old guy or woman with wrinkled dragons, skulls, snakes, tribal art and all those other tattoos on your body and big holes in your ear lobes.
Think how you would laugh at an old person today if you saw them like that. Well….that’ll be you.

Well, for me my body art is something I take really serious and into deep consideration. I know that I think about the future whenever I’m stretching my lobes or getting another tattoo, but the fact is, it’s my body. If I turn out some old wrinkly hag with horrible tattoos and big floppy earlobes then that’s my deal. I know I’ll still find my art beautiful because that’s what I got it for. Oh yeah,

just to let you know, I know many "older" people who still do these "ridiculous" things and they look so good.

And, working as a hairstylist/makeup artist (or any other job), your work (including your body mods) are what makes you, you. It makes people say, "hey I bet she’s awesome at something, c’mon. She’s cool." lol

This is just one of many that caught my interest. I’ll most likely be getting forearm tats in clear UV ink. Im not really interested if you like the drawing itself, but rather for any reason would it look poor because of the mono color UV ink. Thanks for the input everyone.

I have tattooed numerous "clear" UV designs and agree that the design needs to be as large as reasonably possible in order to preserve the detail. As a forearm piece you would need to consider eliminating some of the smaller detail or at least, incorporating the small detail into larger areas of solid ink for it to retain the desired definition.
You should be aware that you can see a UV tattoo as it heals, much longer than ordinarily expected. There is no pigmentation to hide the skin trauma and it will remain visible , i.e. bruised appearance or "burned" appearance for up to six months. (That’s the longest I have seen one persist visibly… I suppose it could take longer) There is no guarantee that it will disappear completely if the artist overworks the skin… you will see the scarring. Caveat emptor! Choose your artist carefully.

I am considering a large tribal tattoo. Similar to a pair of permanent "shorts" I have been thinking of this for some time and am just working out the design. I’ve pretty well drawn up the design, mainly contrasting triangle patterns and large blocks of black with negative images, kind of art deco-ish. It’ll be from waist to upper knees, all images bold.. Is there a specific meaning to this type of tattoo? I would like to keep it strickly a work of art and not a particular tribal affliation, though it will have a few polyneasian influences.

i am not anti-ink but i am definitely anti tribal if the person getting the tribal tattoo does not belong to any tribe or does not have an ancestry rooted in a tribe with a tradition of tattoos.
i don’t look at tribal tattoos as being artful just for the purpose of being artful. i think they have special meaning to the tribes who use them but it’s just somewhat ridiculous when someone gets it just because. obviously this is something you have thought a lot about and it’s something you have your mind set on so good luck in your tattoo adventure.
