I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo for a long time. I never knew exactly what I wanted. One month, I would find one/think of one I would really like, and the next month it wasn’t as interesting. I finally know I want a tattoo that is Bob Marley related. A photo of him and I guess a few other things to personalize it.

My concern is finding a tattoo artist in Northern Indiana that I have confindence in to actually draw Bob Marley on my arm with out making it look all jacked up.

I guess my question is how much more difficult is it for a tattoo artist to do a portrait as compare to lets say a tribal design? Should I not settle for just any tattoo artist with business? Price Estimate?

Most tattoo artists have a "specialty." It’s not that they aren’t good at many styles, it’s just that they’re great with one (like most artists.)
Find an artist who specializes in portrait tats, ask to look at their portfolio, and ask if they’ve ever done a Bob Marley tat. Once you find some you are comfortable with and confident in, ask them to work with you, and find a way to personalize the art. Then ask them to sketch it up for you. Don’t be afraid to ask them to change things.
Pricing depends on the size and detail of the tat. Lots of detail will "disappear" with age. A large tat may not be as practical if you can’t hide it from your boss. A tattoo like the one you’re asking for could range from a hundred bucks to four hundred. The best thing is to ask around. It’s definitely not always about the best deal. Cheap tattoos often look cheap.
I would recommend the first tattoo you have listed as an example. The second is rather thick and dark, and might not age as well. The third doesn’t look anything like Bob Marley.

I am thinking of getting this tattoed on my left inside ankle but smaller. What do you think of it? This will be my first tattoo. Any advice or other ideas? & if anyone has gotten a tattoo here does it hurt more than others? Thanks for your opinion!!

I like it. I’m a guy and I don’t think it’s too "butch" for a female, especially if it’s smaller. Not bad for a first tattoo. As for pain, if it is just going to be all black and no color it probably won’t hurt too incredibly bad. But it will not be comfortable by any means as it is a tattoo!

I’ve been researching different tribal designs for a shoulder piece and I was wondering why you mainly see men with large tribals on their shoulders? I didn’t used to see a lot of girls with tattoos on their wrists and forearms until I got mine and now it seems every other chick has one.

Is it taboo for a girl to have a large tribal tat on her shoulder? Or has anyone else heard of any girls getting that done?
No name, I’m married and don’t bend over for anyone. I also am not egotistical because I have tattoos. The people with the bigger tattoos seem to be nice people while the sissies with the tiny heart or rose on their foot seem to think they’re the baddest mama out there because they have a drop of ink in them. Wos Krrrristen, could you sound any more racist? I do happen to be American Indian and shockingly, we have access to THE INTERNET. Would you suggest I get a cute little rose on my ankle? Sorry, but I’m not the type of girly girl that wears cutsie cowgirl hats like you. I already have a large tribal on my left shoulder, a medium tribal on my wrist and a large one on the back of my neck. Having girly girls like you laugh behind my back means nothing because it means you don’t have the guts to say anything to my face. =)
sn00p: His kind is common. You’ll have to keep me updated if he returns your email. I know he won’t show up at your place cuz you Canadians have crazy laws lol. Not the same as here in the states where a burglar can sue the owner of the house he’s robbing if he hurts himself robbing you. I know he wouldn’t come to my place either because I live in Texas and we have a little gem called the Castle Law.

Tattoo reflects your personality and there are no right or wrong, just as long as you like it..
I dont find it a taboo..
I have gal frens getting tribal on their arms or leg and they look cool too..

I have tribal tattoos on my upper arms and shoulder blades which I love.

These can only be seen when I’m in the nuide or wearing a vest top. I am over eighteen and still live with my parents. They are very conservative and I can’t face telling them, however they may find out if seen without a shirt on when leaving bathroom etc. I like wearing vest tops partly to show them off and it’s a nuisance not being able to wear them in the house.

Get a tattoo that has MEANING to you. It’s going to be on you for the rest of your life and trust me, if you say the word "tribal" to any tattoo artist, they will plead with you not to get it. Not because they have done it thousands of times, but because they have seen people get it lasered off or covered up more often times than not.

I’ve been trying to design a tattoo that I want to get but cannot come up with good result. So I would like to know where I can find someone who can come up with a good result? Art store? College? Or what?

As a tattoo artist I don’t like tribal pieces, Most mean nothing and there is nothing it shows off as far as talent for the artist.
A tribal bird or silhouette is cool but just curves and points that don’t mean anything and just don’t do it for me. I have around 40 tattoo’s, Both legs knee to ankle full wraps but no tribal pieces.

If you got it done with dirty needles then yes but if everything was clean then no.

I have been searching for a while, through all the big sites (Tattoojohnny, tattoofinder etc) but I can not seem to find a design which is right for me, I am not very good at art so I was wondering if anyone knew a decent place to find tattoo’s which meet my critera?

Tribal tattoos are over done and so last year.

I am looking for my hubby for him to get some ideas and i cant seem to find anything that we like and everything always cost money just to look at them so hopefully someone on here could help me thanks guys.
