So I have one sister and one half sister. We’re all related through my mom and my mom passed on a little of Cherokee and Sioux Native American to us. I’m turning eighteen soon and looking for a cool idea that we can all have as a tattoo that will link us as sisters and through our bloodlines. I’ve found one already, it is two x’s with little circles over it, and I’m just looking for a few more ideas, lemme know if you have some, thanks!

I think feathers, one for each of you, would make an awesome Native American tattoo for the three of you. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=feather+tattoo&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=w47mSeDXPMXgnQehj9ylBw&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

Not tattoos of Indians, I am referring to the artwork they had on their fore arms and chest

Tattoo is a NEW idea. All the patterns, markings we used to wear were painted on.

These "patterns" if you will are CLAN oriented and usually will not be shared with people that do not belong to that clan.

Most were nothing more then counting marks. Take California Indians, there were marks on the for arms, that actually MEASURED lengths of dentalium money shells.

the term "tribal" in regards to ‘tattoo’ are not actually related to ANY tribe, it’s a pure misnomer.

I would recommend if you are not affiliated with a tribe you leave such markings ALONE.
You wouldn’t want to find out AFTERWARD you had a big sign on you that reads "sheep rider"

Okay, I’m multiracial (leaning more towards black but less then half) and I’m planning on getting a Choctaw Tribal Tattoo since I’m part Choctaw. I was just wondering whether this would be foolhardy of me (like being a poser or something since *unfortuantely* I don’t have a tribal affiliation card or anything like that) to even consider applying a cultures sacred body art to my body, especially since I’m not even a quarter Choctaw. I don’t want to offend anybody (kind of like those people who try to hard to fit into other peoples cultures), but I also want to get one because I’m really proud to be part Choctaw, especially since I can’t exactly claim one, ‘er, group/race/nationality I guess (althought I do self-identitfy as African American)?

Anyway, any help would be greatly appericated! Thanks! :)

I am native Canadian ( Inuit) and the only time I get offended is if the person has no idea what it really is or what it means. Of course I think it is silly to get any tattoo if you have no idea what it really means!!! lol If you’re gonna put something on your body you should know what it is!! get the work done…you know were it came from and who you are so you can wear it proud :)

What is your opinion on tribal tattoos? If you saw a Native American with several large traditional Native American tattoos on their body, what would you think (ie would you think it weird, cool, ect)? What do you think of people who get tribal tattoos that have actually nothing to do with their heritage (ie do you think of it as "posing", okay, cool, you don’t care, ect)? Would you think of something with the tattoos be unprofessional or wild? Please post thoughts. Thanks.

I think that would be very cool. Many people have tattoos that reflect different ethnic backgrounds (tribals, Chinese letters, sanskrtit, etc.). Just make sure the design is meaningful to YOU, not just doing to follow a trend or to impress someone else.

My family geneaology is part of the Blackfoot Tribe. I would like to honor my grandchild with a tattoo of the symbol which means "grandchild." I can’t seem to find what I am looking for, if it exists.

Looking for something like that, which I don’t think exists, at a genealogy venue wouldn’t seem that successful a choice any more than asking for brake shoes at a beauty shop.

i’m going to be getting my first tattoo soon and i’ve decided on native american tattoos. i want it to be something about my heritage. i have native american heritage on both sides of my family, but since my mom moved away, i’ve lost a lot of contact with the choctaw side, that actually celebrated their blood. it was a big part of my life growing up, and i’m going to be leaving for college soon and wanted something to remember it by. so i’ve decided i’m going to get two feathers tied in beadwork on my shoulder, but i also want to get wording somewhere around it. I know hardly any words, beside colors and stuff and i want one with meaning. i’ve thought about getting ahyoka, like the story, since it means “bringer of happiness/joy”, and people say that fits me. but would that makes sense? since it is actually a name? if not any ideas??? thank you.
I think that ahyoka is an excellent choice. Here is something else to consider, chahta’ siahokii! Meaning “I’m Choctaw” or “I certainly am a choctaw!”

I’ve seen a few, but can’t find good enough size images of any. I’m looking for a *Vintage* pinup, not one of the new cheesy ones, for a tattoo. I’m talking Vargas, Elvgren, Runci, D’Ancona, classic type pin ups…not deviantart type stuff. Anyone have any ideas?

Arizona, reservation.
