I live in Brandon, Fl. I am interested in a tattoo the same size, just slightly different design. (More traditional tribal) Just wondering If anyone had any guesses, or experience with pricing something similar to this. I keep hearing from friends either 200-400 or even 1K. I know, "you get what you pay for," but I want a realistic price range. Thanks!
There’s not a lot of detail work, it’s just a simple tribal design that any apprentice should be able to do easily. This is not a tattoo that a master artist should have any trouble with, but they do so many so often, that they’re likely to overcharge you for it, just to keep from having to do yet another tribal back piece. Depending on the size of your back, I wouldn’t expect you to have to pay anywhere over 400 for it. But tattoos have gone up retardedly high in price because of shows like LA Ink making all the apprentice level tattoo artists think they’re the shit, so they charge way more than they should.
something like this :

All Of these link of tattoos are arm band the full length of circle of my arm is around 40cm
okay, so i’m going to give you a little advice, that you may already know or not know. tribal is continuous solid black color. anything that is just one color for a large area has a higher risk of spotting. in black, this is more noticeable. suggestion- if you are really set on tribal, think about putting a greyscale design in it, shading..etc.. i’ve seen skulls, smoke, pretty much anything inside tribal. anyways… to answer your question, yes, it depends on what design you go with, what tattoo shop, artist, and their rates… alot, not all, tattoo artists dont like doing slid black tribal, because they know later down the road, it will not look at its best. if they tell you these things, then dont be offended or feel like you are being pushed into something else, they are just trying to help you to make your tattoo look the best that it can. but its your choice and if thats what you want go for it. as for the location, if your out in the sun at all, your tattoo will fade and spot even more quickly. plus, a full arm band will distort when you make a muscle. as for prices, i can only estimate. all states are different and all shops within each state are different for pices. for the thinner designs, i would say anywhere from $100-$140 for the thick designs maybe up to $200. but again, some shops charge less, some more. this is just an estimate. and remember, good tattoos arent cheap and cheap tattoos arent good.
Doctor Andrea Wraith joins the Mentawai tribe in Indonesia to learn more about bodily rituals such as tattoos and teeth sharpening, and is baffled by the high tolerance the tribe women seem to have for pain. Interesting short video from BBC show Tribal Wives. Part of a series. Six women give up their everyday lives and spend a month living with some of the world’s most remote tribes, immersing themselves fully into their new culture. Each woman must work, eat and sleep exactly as the other tribal women.

Can anyone give any good estimates on something like this? I’d like for it to come down around my elbow onto my forearm.

or something with thicker lines but less detail like this?

Also, does that look like a one sitting deal? Will it matter if I don’t get it all done at once? Does it matter if I change artist/shops half way through? Obviously I know that the ink may vary or the styles may change, but I’m thinking maybe outlines first then fill-in?
thanks, anyone who has something similar to this please share.
Also, I dont have what most would say is a big arm. Thoughts on how this may look on an "average" arm?
Like the person before me said, you’re look at around $500, somewhere between $450-$600, depending on the artist. I suggest going with the thicker lines. IMO they look better, and the artist may give you a slightly lower cost because there would be less detail. However, cost should be the last thing you consider when getting a tattoo.
Get your body where you want it before getting the tattoo. If you’re happy with your body now, you will be happy with it after the tattoo. But if you’re unhappy with the way you’re body looks, getting a tattoo would not be a wise choice at the moment. Think about it, a tattoo draws attention, and if you’re self-conscious about an area, it’s going to make the situation worse.
Best of luck

£1000-£1200 its been done in my shop before, we get shown that tattoo all the time so you may want to look further than the first page of google images if you wanna be unique.
Hi, i was wondering if there are any types of inks that are avilable whereby it would be able to have my tattoo done in black however when it is exposed to bright light the tattoo looks almost like a dark metallic blue, or even a black tattoo that then blends into a really dark blue but not too noticably.
If anyone has any picture examples could you please post the link to them.
the nearest type of picture i could get to explain my point is:
http://www.zhippo.com/ChrisOppenheimHOSTED/images/gallery/tribal-arm-tattoo-m.jpg
as you can see the ink looks almost dark green in the highlighted part, it is this type of effect im looking for but with a dark blue that will be shown when there is light exposed to parts of it.
PS. i dont mean inks that fade in time to a blue like with the older inks, i mean an intentional effect whereby the tattoo is still black but also a really dark blue.
The effect is only the light hitting the skin its not the ink. There is no such thing as what you are looking for sorry, ive seen you ask this question before. Whoever has told you about this is wrong ! Im a pro tattoo artist so i know what im on about. You may as well stop looking for it as it doesn’t exist sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that’s how it is .The only way of doing it would be to actually colour parts of it a really dark uncut blue and fade out to black.
