I’m a belly dancer and I want tattoos that are themed around that, I’ve been searching for ever but that picture is the ONLY one I’ve found that looks like what I want. any links to pictures or galleries would be great. by the way I’m looking for round or fan shaped patterns to put on my lower hip/waist

BY THE WAY: I can already feel it coming so just to clarify, I KNOW what henna is, and I don’t want henna, I want henna THEMED designs. also I’m an adult and perfectly aware of the ups and downs of getting tattoos so if your going to lecture, and tell me I shouldn’t please resist and don’t answer. thank you

I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo for a long time. I never knew exactly what I wanted. One month, I would find one/think of one I would really like, and the next month it wasn’t as interesting. I finally know I want a tattoo that is Bob Marley related. A photo of him and I guess a few other things to personalize it.

My concern is finding a tattoo artist in Northern Indiana that I have confindence in to actually draw Bob Marley on my arm with out making it look all jacked up.

I guess my question is how much more difficult is it for a tattoo artist to do a portrait as compare to lets say a tribal design? Should I not settle for just any tattoo artist with business? Price Estimate?

Most tattoo artists have a "specialty." It’s not that they aren’t good at many styles, it’s just that they’re great with one (like most artists.)
Find an artist who specializes in portrait tats, ask to look at their portfolio, and ask if they’ve ever done a Bob Marley tat. Once you find some you are comfortable with and confident in, ask them to work with you, and find a way to personalize the art. Then ask them to sketch it up for you. Don’t be afraid to ask them to change things.
Pricing depends on the size and detail of the tat. Lots of detail will "disappear" with age. A large tat may not be as practical if you can’t hide it from your boss. A tattoo like the one you’re asking for could range from a hundred bucks to four hundred. The best thing is to ask around. It’s definitely not always about the best deal. Cheap tattoos often look cheap.
I would recommend the first tattoo you have listed as an example. The second is rather thick and dark, and might not age as well. The third doesn’t look anything like Bob Marley.

I am thinking of getting this tattoed on my left inside ankle but smaller. What do you think of it? This will be my first tattoo. Any advice or other ideas? & if anyone has gotten a tattoo here does it hurt more than others? Thanks for your opinion!!

I like it. I’m a guy and I don’t think it’s too "butch" for a female, especially if it’s smaller. Not bad for a first tattoo. As for pain, if it is just going to be all black and no color it probably won’t hurt too incredibly bad. But it will not be comfortable by any means as it is a tattoo!

The one you chose for yourself is pretty. I personally hate the type of tribal your husband chose. I feel they are completely unoriginal, they scream to me "I want a huge tattoo to look bad/cool but I can’t think of what to get" – but if he loves it that’s all that matters. If he can think of something that has some significance to him that would be a better choice. I am covered in tattoos and I have in the past made the mistake of getting one that had no meaning, and 7 years later I wound up covering it with another tattoo.

I think that if you get a good artist/tattooist that he/she should be able to work your flower design in such a way to compliment your tribal. Maybe in line, and detail, or balance, or a style tweaking. A good artist should be able to draw up a flower design that is inspired by this piece, but very unique and personal to you.
1st find your flower, by looking at real flowers or artwork etc., bring in this picture, and the other pictures, photos, drawings, and maybe real flowers, as reference, then let he/she work it out.

I live in Brandon, Fl. I am interested in a tattoo the same size, just slightly different design. (More traditional tribal) Just wondering If anyone had any guesses, or experience with pricing something similar to this. I keep hearing from friends either 200-400 or even 1K. I know, "you get what you pay for," but I want a realistic price range. Thanks!

There’s not a lot of detail work, it’s just a simple tribal design that any apprentice should be able to do easily. This is not a tattoo that a master artist should have any trouble with, but they do so many so often, that they’re likely to overcharge you for it, just to keep from having to do yet another tribal back piece. Depending on the size of your back, I wouldn’t expect you to have to pay anywhere over 400 for it. But tattoos have gone up retardedly high in price because of shows like LA Ink making all the apprentice level tattoo artists think they’re the shit, so they charge way more than they should.
