Jen, make sure you find someone who knows Chinese characters well.
A friend of mine got a tattoo for one that the tattoo parlor had for "Strength" All the folks in Chinatown had a good laugh because it’s real meaning was something like "dumb@ss".
I have 7 chinese symbols down my back. The only way you can know for sure that it is exactly what you want it to say is go somewhere like a chinese reseraunt and ask one of the people there to write it down for you. Trust me, its a good idea. You want it to mean the right thing, and there are also different ways to write phrases like that. I got my name and the lady gave me two different versions of it to choose from. References :
please don’t get the chinese symbol tattoos they’re beyond played out. my friends got theirs covered up after a few yrs…get that phrase in a really nice font.

Many tattoo parlors will have a book of basic symbols, because chinese character tattoos are so popular. You might try that first.
Or, you can go to a nearby college and ask a Chinese teacher. Generally, they’re willing to impart their wisdom.
