Many tattoo parlors will have a book of basic symbols, because chinese character tattoos are so popular. You might try that first.
Or, you can go to a nearby college and ask a Chinese teacher. Generally, they’re willing to impart their wisdom.

Jen, make sure you find someone who knows Chinese characters well.
A friend of mine got a tattoo for one that the tattoo parlor had for "Strength" All the folks in Chinatown had a good laugh because it’s real meaning was something like "dumb@ss".
So BE CAREFUL!

I have 7 chinese symbols down my back. The only way you can know for sure that it is exactly what you want it to say is go somewhere like a chinese reseraunt and ask one of the people there to write it down for you. Trust me, its a good idea. You want it to mean the right thing, and there are also different ways to write phrases like that. I got my name and the lady gave me two different versions of it to choose from.

please don’t get the chinese symbol tattoos they’re beyond played out. my friends got theirs covered up after a few yrs…get that phrase in a really nice font.
no offense to the people who have them but that "trend" faded away like tribal arm bands
