i asked a question earlier today on one of the tattoo forums and i got one answer that got me thinking
my question was about the final decision when it comes to getting something tattooed . im not sure what i want i mean i know what i want but its hard for me ot make the final step
i was thinking about getting 3 hollow stars across my forearm or my zodiac sign which is Taurus
and this one person said that stars, kanji, zodiac signs are all tattoo cliches
but aren’t all , most popular designs a bit cliche ?? i mean we see people around with flowers and butterflies and fairy’s and tribal and dragon , skulls , wings swallows ,anchors etc…. you name it , people have it
i guess what im trying to say is , aren’t all designs the same ?? i mean the only thing that can someone make it more personal is it its maybe design by the person that want it to be tattooed on him or her
and i dont 100% believe that tattoos have to tell story behind them i think that its cause of the shows like LA or Miami ink people started to think that if it does not have any meaning its worthless
with the name i dont get it either
my friend actually got his last name tattooed on his ribs and i told him that it was kinda stupid ( i dont like to sugar coat things) i mean what is the point on getting your name on your body ??
I have a cliched butterfly on my shoulder and my husband’s name in Japanese across my lower back. The butterfly I got because it was pretty (although I only marginally like it now) and the name because it was a wedding present.
But mostly, yeah, all tattoos are total cliches unless they are extremely custom designed. The fun is seeing how people justify their "It’s meaningful to me" tattoos.
BTW, what is up with young guys tattooing their last names on themselves? Are they going to forget who they are?

I know for me one of the reasons I haven’t gotten a tattoo yet is because everytime I look up tattoo ideas online I see all these galleries of various tattoos that other people have had and to me, I want something really unique and speaks to me. If this tattoo speaks to you get it.

I completely agree w/ you. I’ve said the exact same thing in the past. So just because many people have stars, butterflies, skulls, flowers and so on, does that mean nobody else can get them? Same thing w/ placement, I can’t stand when people say oh don’t put it on your foot or back, be original. How can you be original w/ placement when we only have so many body parts?? ha ha I say if you want it then get it, whether you get it because it represents something or you get it just because you like the design. It’s your body and your decision and people need to respect that.

Well there are three young women, all about the same age, who deliver to my work site. All three have black nautical stars.

to answer your question simply NO not all tattoo designs are the same…people with stars hearts and peace signs get tattoos just to have a tattoo, to look cool or try to be bad ass but for people who see meaning in their tattoos dgaf what ppl think about them (positive or negative) and when they look at their tats they remember why they got it like someone who lost a loved one get a cross they look that and think of that person…and i think your friend got his last name the reason why most people do because hes proud of it hes proud of where he comes from and to represent that name so im sure when
you told him it was "kinda stupid" he didn’t care

well firstly people are allowed to have a tattoo for the sake of having a tattoo, show like miami ink, and la ink have given the perception that all tattoo’s having to have a strong meaning.
i do agree that they should have some meaning, but i also support just getting a tattoo for the sake of it.
and yes most tattoos are cliche, but you know what thats okay to.
so in reference to the guy that told you that on the fourm
he more then likely was covered in cliche tattoos and really he’s just a keyboard warrior hahaha

its the difference between a flower from clip art on your computer v.s. Georgia O’Keef.
they both are flowers, but one is a work of fine art and one is stupid clip art.
There is a difference.
