It’s half of a word. 剛強 [gokyou] means strength and 剛 is common in words pertaining to strength, but I don’t think it really classifies as a word itself. It’s still understandable that you wanted strong, though, so it’s not a curse if that’s what you mean.

the tattoo conveys the general meaning so it seems pretty correct
i forgot about tsuyoi, which means strong.

It means "strong" or "strength".
There are many symbols of "strong" but I think your choice is cool as a tatoo.
