I want to get a tattoo of my boyfriends indian symbol or name when we get married i just need to know what the symbol or name is in native american because he is part cherrokee.
Considering you want to live in ignorance thinking we all speak the same language, I will play your game!
Mark, in NATIVE AMERICAN, has two translations:
1. WHITE man with great-great grandmother who was a Cherokee Princess.
2. He who marries ignorant white woman with tattoo fetish.
What a noble name your fiance has!!! If you’d like, I can draw you the "Native American symbol" that represents either of these meanings for your tattoo! Just decide which translation you like the best. I bet I could even come up with a picture that represents both meanings together!

The meaning of Mark? What does it mean in English? Yeah same thing, there is no meaning in our language, there are no translations for english names in our languages, there are words for things but not names. As as native, we have our Native names and our english names, but the english name is not translated into our language, it is what it is.

Why is it that everyone who is NOT Native believes there is an equivalent Native American name for every Anglo name and that it has meaning… Sorry but it just isn’t true….

Lakota dream and Cool are right. My question is if your boy friend isnt in touch enough with his native heritage to be able to tell you this himself then why bother?

Mark is a Roman derived name meaning: "consecrated to the god Mars".
The name "Mark" has nothing to do with any Native culture, there is no meaning for that name in our culture – none of us have ever worshiped the god "Mars" nor did we have any contact with Romans in the past (that I can recall) to have had that name or that meaning added to any of our cultures.
And while I’m at it, there is no such thing as a generic "Native American" language, symbolism, belief system, traditions, culture, etc.
If you think I am wrong about any of this, please, please feel free to contact the Nation that your boyfriend either belongs to or says that he belongs to and please tell me what their reply is…
…I’m dying to know how long it takes them to stop fuming or laughing before they actually respond.
