I don’t know about tattoos, but I have seen English words used on Japaneese ads where they clearly have no idea what they mean. (At least, I hope they don’t. Those ads make no sense whatsoever.) References :
No doubt many people are asking for English tattoos on the Chinese version of Y!A right this minute, and many will end up with Chinglish or Engrish. References :
No they don’t they are interested in english words because they are supposedly amazing and exotic but they never go as far as to get tattoos. People in England, America, Australia etc all speak English and think that Chinese words are amazing and I think it is very stupid because I could write "You are a fat piece of S**t" on their arm and they would be like I LOVE MY NEW TATTOO IT LOOKS SO AMAZING AND EXOTIC and they would feel so amazing when the chinese stare at their arm and laugh at them. Sorry it is just that I detest the idea of getting tattoos and I don’t get why people would want to put "Luck" and "Love" on their arm when good fortune isn’t coming to them… just terrible blood diseases and whatever bad comes with tattoos. Some Chinese people, especially the youth, like tattoos in English. When young people get tattoos, for they learn English at school, they seldom ask what the tattoos mean. It is common that they have what they like as their tattoos. But when older people get tattoos, they would consider whether the tattoos look cool or not. So sometimes they don’t ask what the tattoos mean. As a result, something like the second person mentioned happened. If you want to get a Chinese tattoo, I suggest you ask what the symbols mean to avoid embarrassment. Hope my answer is helpful to you. Right, some Chinese like tattoos in English. I’ve seen some people with English tattoos. But I believe some don’t know what the tattoo means at all. I once saw a girl had “hustler” on her. References :
