REVIVAL A majority of people in the Philippines still view tattoos as a symbol reserved for those in jail, a dirty expression, and a dying one with the tribal peoples of the mountain provinces. Once revered as a symbol for headhunters and their relations, the tribal peoples have since abandoned this expression (as well as headhunting) and lean towards more western ways. The symbols of their tattoos are minimal in documentation and may be seen in Aleks Figueroa’s forthcoing book on tattoos from the Philippines.* Today, those who have been tattooed are predominately of Filipino American descent. They have had keen interests in various styles- American, Japanese, or Polynesian tattooing or any of it’s influence

  6. ric3stix Says:

    Filipinos are not …
Filipinos are not uneducated individuals. haha I love Noys. Anyways. People are all human, but those who refuse to believe that and judge by RACE instead of character are truely the UNEDUCATED. Not one Filipino that I’ve come across is a “Poor, third world, uneducated person,” like so many dumbasses believe. To tell you the truth they seen like the brightest people, because their education systems are SO much better than anyones in my belief. Hella better than America’s. Ingats

  10. tekhele Says:

    was because of …
was because of Polynesia….there are so many Filipinos in the Pacific islands that took an interest in our designs and our tattoos….and before you know it, they are also sportin our tattoos along with Filipino designs, which in my opinion is absurd. You forget your identity has gone through repeated influences, so don’t try to act like your tattoos are the shit, when in fact they were only brought to light by means of another indigenous people. Education is key.

  11. tekhele Says:

    Polynesian tattoos …
Polynesian tattoos are sacred and have a story of their own, don’t marginalize our tattoos…and you oughta know, the only reason how and why traditional Filipino tattoos were revived,

  12. tekhele Says:

    Polynesian tattoos …
Polynesian tattoos have become so commercial or trendy…because of Filipinos/Asians, Americans, including Europeans…I would say alot more Fil-Ams than most….

warriorbk.filipinos have been practicing tattoo traditions just as long as samoans, hawaiians, tongans have.we are not stealing anybody elses designs or way of tattoing.that would be very disrespectful.and also samoan300c we r not trying to be anything else other then ourselves as filipinos.also how could you call us wannabe islanders when we happen to live on thousands of islands in the paciffic ocean.filos r not asian.if you look it up we belong to the austronesian race family as well as samoans do. there is a video on youtube talking all about it. unfortunately the raping and pillagin of the spaniards has ruined our true identity. check out tatak ng apat na alon tribe for more info on filipino tribal tattooing
