I live in Brandon, Fl. I am interested in a tattoo the same size, just slightly different design. (More traditional tribal) Just wondering If anyone had any guesses, or experience with pricing something similar to this. I keep hearing from friends either 200-400 or even 1K. I know, "you get what you pay for," but I want a realistic price range. Thanks!
There’s not a lot of detail work, it’s just a simple tribal design that any apprentice should be able to do easily. This is not a tattoo that a master artist should have any trouble with, but they do so many so often, that they’re likely to overcharge you for it, just to keep from having to do yet another tribal back piece. Depending on the size of your back, I wouldn’t expect you to have to pay anywhere over 400 for it. But tattoos have gone up retardedly high in price because of shows like LA Ink making all the apprentice level tattoo artists think they’re the shit, so they charge way more than they should.

I would guess around 500-600 most place charge about 100 an hour… but just print it out and take it to different tattoo shops and see what they say.. theyll also size it for you

Honestly, the reason you’ve been getting a huge range is because the only person who would be able to give you a price is the tattoo artist you’ll be getting it from. So it can be anywhere from 100-1,000 dollars. Depending on size, time, colors, etc. But from my experiences I don’t think you’ll be paying under 500. Just print the image and go to different shops near you (you should do this anyway, scope out the shop make sure it’s clean and licensed!)

It’s really impossible for anyone on here to say, as prices vary so much region to region, and shop to shop. All you can really do is try and find an artist in your area that has good examples of similar work in their portfolio, and charges reasonably. Most cities have a few prominent, flashy shops that may not have very nice work, but are in a tourist spot or city center, and they charge tourist prices, too, so of course you should try and spot any of these, and avoid them
Many tattooists dislike doing tribal as it’s so tedious to do, and give higher quotes for this reason.
I disagree with what the previous commenter said about the design being something an apprentice could do. Solid, clean blackwork is not easy, and if you need to come in and get it touched up time after time, or it’s scarred from an inexperienced artist overworking it, obviously it’s not worth the money saved.
On a side note, tribal is an extremely dated trend, most people these days associate it with vain guys with spiked-up hair and muscle-shirts, trying way too hard to look tough.
You might seriously consider avoiding it and go with something more timeless and classy.
